I ran the Wonderful Days of Winter 5K in Marietta, GA a few times previously. The race was originally conducted as a fundraiser for the Wonderful Days Pre-K to purchase buses to transport students. The race has continued to be a success over the past years that it continues to be a main fundraiser for the Pre-K.
While I love running large/high-profile races that offer a lot of frills, there is something great about running small local races. I enjoy running races that benefit organizations in my local community. My absolute favorite part of this race is that the age group awards are made by the students. For the past 3 years I have been striving to run fast enough to receive one of these hand-painted flowerpots. Last year I sat in 3rd place in my age group for the longest time, but right as they were about to start the awards a late time card was turned in which bumped me to 4th place. This year I finally did it! I earned my flower pot! I was so delighted to accept my flower pot from one of the students. Question of the day: What is your most unique race award?

This race looks fun! Sadly I don't have any unique race awards. How do you find such fun races?

I use a website (RunGeorgia) that lists a lot of the races in metro-Atlanta. My local running stores have also been good places to find race flyers for some of the smaller local races.
