As each of our runners finished the race, we cheered for the rest of the runners down to the last finishers - it is what we do. Nothing beats heading to the finish line and hearing cowbells and your friends cheering for you. My friend Becky even ran back to finish the last .1 mile with myself and a few other friends.
It is time to "spring forward" again - what better way to celebrate than running a 5K at 1:00AM with a few hundred friends! The objective of 5K in Paradise is pretty easy: (1) Start at 1AM and "beat the clock" to the time change at 1:55AM (2) HAVE FUN (or race hard - choice is your but I recommend fun of course)! The 5K in Paradise is part of a night time race series in Kennesaw, GA and includes Paint the Mall Pink in October and Anything is Possible 5K in November. There was a pretty good size group of my friends running this race (yes, we are crazy) and Papa J even decided to join Momma K and I for the fun this time. Our group has a great mix of both "fast runners" as well as "fun runners" - you can guess what category I fall into. The course is a 2-lap course around the mall and is very well lit considering you are running at night. While the course is deemed to be a flat and fast course, most of my slower races are on this course (probably because of my choice of attire for these races). The issue with the 2-lap course are that the faster runners end up having to dodge the back of the pack during their second loop because the course is in one lane and that the course can be cut short by just completing the first loop (which of my friends who was the 3rd overall female witnessed someone doing so). The race is also not chip-timed, so if you are planning on attempting a PR or qualifying time so you might want to be towards the front if aiming for a particular time (I had a delay of about 25-30 seconds). As each of our runners finished the race, we cheered for the rest of the runners down to the last finishers - it is what we do. Nothing beats heading to the finish line and hearing cowbells and your friends cheering for you. My friend Becky even ran back to finish the last .1 mile with myself and a few other friends. There was a dance contest which if you know me, you know I was not doing that lol. Then came my "specialty" - the costume contest! All of the runners in costume lined up and the "top 3" were selected to have the crowd vote for the winner. Can you guess who won? The final awards were given out for largest and wildest teams as well as best team name and the awards ceremony ended with the traditional age group awards which we had several in our group place. YAY! After the awards, the post party continued at the race but we decided to follow our tradition and hit up IHOP for breakfast...dinner....whatever meal this is at 4AM! While the 5K in Paradise has a lot of competitive and fast runners at it, I enjoy having these races on my schedule in order to have a less stressful and "fun" race on my schedule. Question of the Day: Have you ever ran a night-time race before?
