All of the above is why I was super stoked when the team at EatSmart reached out to me to check out the Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale. After checking out the different features of the device, I knew that this was something that would be a great tool for me and my fitness goals.
The EatSmart Precision GetFit Scale is much more than the typical bathroom scale that many of us have. This scale not only measures your weight, it also easily measures your body fat, body water, body muscle and bone mass. Their BIA (Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis) technology calculates your body fitness by imputing information of gender, height, age, activity level and your weight. That sounds cool and all, but how does it really know what is happening in my body? The GetFit Body Fat Scale must be used in bare feet and a low-level electrical signal (which is safe and not felt) is sent though your body fat to measures the resistance the signal encounters.

Setting up the profiles is crazy easy. By using the touch screen, you simply set your gender, height, and age under your profile number. Yes, I double checked against the instructions to make sure that I set it up correctly and CHECK!
Next, the Precision GetFit Scale uses it low-level electrical signal to calculate your other measurements. Basically, the Precision GetFit Scale measures the resistance of the signal which provides your calculations for your body metrics which scroll through at the bottom of the LCD screen. It takes a few seconds for the Precision GetFit Scale to get the calculations, but in less than 5 seconds your results are ready.
I will be honest, seeing all these different measurements on the LCD screen at first was a bit overwhelming and was something that I wasn't really too used to looking at, but thankfully the user manual has a breakdown of all the different body metrics along with what they mean and charts on ranges. Since I am not a dietitian or health professional, here are a few different snippets from the Precision GetFit Scale user manual on the body metrics:
"Body Fat is a vital measurement of your overall health and fitness. A normal body fat level varies with age, activity level and gender. For example, it is normal for women to record up to 10% higher values than men. With increasing age, the body breaks down muscle mass which causes an increase in body fat levels. It is important to monitor your body fat as health problems can arise from either having too little or too much body fat." (Source: Precision GetFit Scale User Manual) |
"Total Body Water is the amount of fluid in a person’s body expressed as a percentage of their total body weight. Approximately 45-65 percent of your body weight is water. Water plays a vital role in your body and is found in every cell, organ and tissue. In order to achieve reliable results over a period of time that help you to evaluate your progress, we strongly recommend consistent measuring conditions, as mentioned earlier." "Muscle Mass plays an important role in overall health because muscle acts as the body’s engine in consuming calories. As you exercise more, your muscle mass increases thus helping you reduce body fat and lose weight the healthy way. Additionally, increased muscle mass accelerates the rate at which calories are burned. Muscle uses energy while fat simply stores it. The more muscle mass you have, the more energy you will burn and maintaining a healthy body weight will become easier." (Source: Precision GetFit Scale User Manual) |
- Use the Precision GetFit Scale on a hard flat floor with dry bare feet (wearing shoes, socks, etc will only provide you with weight measurements)
- Use the Precision GetFit Scale to measure progress - consult your physician for long term goals
- For the most accurate body metrics, weigh yourself in the evening (before eating) and for most accurate weight measurements, weigh yourself in morning just after getting up.
- Drink a glass of water about an hour before testing your body metrics and drink the same amount each time you measure
- Don't measure immediately after a workout - your sweat and hydration loss creates adverse readings
A HUGE thank you again to the team over at EatSmart for giving me the opportunity to try out the Precision GetFit Scale and to share it with y'all. As I am busting my butt with nutrition and at training week after week, I hope that I continue to see the results in my body's composition. Heck, I think I actually even have a friendly relationship with the scale now since it is no longer just about the weight.
