The weather was suppose to be pretty cruddy most of the weekend, but luckily the radar and forecast for the morning was looking good until about 11am - perfect to squeeze in the 5K at 8am. Well in the 20 minutes between leaving the house and arriving to Kennesaw, things changed. There were flickers of lightning and rumbles of thunder all around along with a fairly heavy rain. You can run races in the rain, but lightning is a totally different beast.
We arrived to the race fairly early (as normal). There is pretty ample parking at these races, but we had to pickup our bibs, use the restroom, etc so we just like to be sure we aren't too rushed or stressed. However, would we get to run?
Everyone was super understanding - runners and volunteers alike. Yes, it stinks, but the safety for everyone had to be considered. We all got our bibs and shirts and since post race breakfast was on hand, they offered us coffee and treats before heading out.
Now, you don't really think that I was just going to take my shirt and go on my merry way, right? You guessed it.....
