Heroes in Recovery 6K quickly became a family favorite for Momma K and I run after we ran it for the first time in 2015. There were just so many things that we genuinely enjoyed about the experience, but mostly we were happy to be supporting a wonderful organization, Heroes in Recovery. After a great time the past three years, when it was time to make our 2018 race calendar, we both knew instantly that we had to look out for race details for this race to come around this summer.
Even with a slightly smaller crowd, we knew that we needed to line up sooner rather than later to be about where we needed to be for our paces.
I crossed the finish line with a new PR by a few seconds, but about 3 minutes slower than what I was really hoping to run today. Not too shabby for the conditions. I seriously was completely soaked when I finished - like it looked like I just got out of the swimming pool soaked.
I have to give a HUGE shout out to the creativity and meaningfulness of today's awards. As part of an art therapy during recovery, they painted rocks for the awards. Seeing the different themes and creativity in the designs were so cool. Knowing that the ones benefiting from today's race had a hands-on touch to the race was pretty cool.
