The past 2 years, we have had massive amounts of rain the days leading up to the race which has lead to some minor flooded areas along the way. Thankfully this year was different and there was no flooded spots to have to deal with. Seriously, I smiled when I made a right hand turn and saw that there was no water laying in one of the low-lying areas that was under water last year.
After running Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh last week, it was definetly a change of pace to be running on the greenway this week. There was no fan-fare (while the volunteers were still excellent). There were no bands along the way to entertain you. There was no one handing out donuts at mile 6.5. It was just you and your run. Yes, those highly supported races are awesome, but sometimes it is nice to just run. It is a wonderful feeling of freedom to just let your mind clear as you conquer 13.1 miles.
