The course takes you about a mile through World Showcase before taking a loop of Boardwalk. Running the Boardwalk area is one of my favorite parts of the 10K because the crowd support is absolutely amazing! Whether they are watching for their particular runner to come by or just out to get a cup of coffee at the bakery, high-fives and cheers are plentiful. The last portion of the 10K takes you back into EPCOT to run through Future World past The Land and Nemo & Friends before wrapping around Spaceship Earth to the finish line.
Ariel and friends took the Princess Enchanted 10K by storm! It was another early wake up - this time around 2:30. Once we were all ready, we caught one of the first buses to the race. Thankfully Elsa recognized that this is NOT her race today and toned down the cold air. When we first arrived, we met up with our friend from home, Ramona. This was Ramona's first runDisney race weekend so we were excited to meet up with her. As we ate our breakfast in the staging area, we met up with a few other friends - my friend Jennifer who I met running the WDW Marathon in 2014 and a few other friends from back in Atlanta. We had a little more waiting around to do today as the corrals were spaced out by about 15 minutes. Regardless, time still went by fast. One reason it went by fast was because we found our friends Kimberly, Gail, and Rebecca in the corral. Yea, their understated costumes made them a little difficult to find. In case you were wondering, their costumes "Tutu much Minnie" were inspired by the 2014 pink Minnie runDisney New Balance shoes. These ladies are such a hoot to hang out with and it was fun to get to spend time with them. The first 3 miles of the 10K take place on the road outside of EPCOT. Anna and Elsa were there to greet us shortly after we started. Elsa's temper was a lot better today and she nicely waved to us as we ran under the overpass. One of my favorite parts of running the 10K at WDW is getting to run under the EPCOT sign - of course we had to stop for a quick selfie here (even though it didn't turn out well). The race course gets VERY congested during mile 2. The course narrows significantly and it can be tough to maneuver especially if you have people running/walking several abreast. It is key to just be patient. Just like in life, you need to be a patient princess, but you also need to be a polite princess. It is not in polite princess fashion to block the way of your fellow princess friends nor is it polite to yell at other princesses. Unless you are in the front of corral A, you are likely going to have some form of congestion, just breathe and enjoy your journey. Before we knew it we were entering World Showcase and we truly felt the Disney spirit and magic surrounding us. While we were still having fun during the 10K, we opted to not stop for the character stops since the lines were longer today. Instead, we decided to make our own photo stops along the way. We finished the race as a family with smiles on our faces. Race #2 of the weekend was done and we collected our bling. Post-race we got to meet a few of our favorite Princesses - Cinderella and Tiana. We had never met Tiana before, so that was a fun experience for us. We later celebrated with some breakfast at Ohana at the Polynesian. Papa J is now done with his 9.3 mile journey of Princess Weekend 2015, and Momma K and are 13.1 miles away from earning our Glass Slippers. Question of the Day: Did you participate in the Enchanted 10K? What was your favorite part of the course?
