You know by now that Adventure Run Thursdays are my FAVORITE! I honestly think that I look forward to going "Adventuring" as much as I do racing. Seriously - they are that much fun! What is an Adventure Run you ask? Adventure Runs are hosted by Road Runner Sports stores and are a scavenger hunt style fun run. At the start of the run, a map is revealed on a board (or sent to your email if you pre-registered) and you are sent on your way. Your goal is to get to as many checkpoints and get back to the store in an hour. Each checkpoint gives you raffle tickets to be used in the drawings once the run is over. At some checkpoints you simply get tickets for arriving and some have fun little tasks to complete (such as burpees, planks, etc). There are some pretty awesome prizes to be won and the best part is that Adventure Runs are FREE! Each Adventure Run night has a different theme. So far I have participated in Spring (baseball, Easter, etc), Luau, Cartoon character, and 80s night. Tonight's theme was.....STAR WARS! We grabbed our light sabers and hoped that the force would be with us. We got to Road Runner Sports early and got checked-in. Then we proceeded to the lawn to check out the awesome vendors there and of course start collecting our tickets. Our map was revealed at 6:30 and we were on our way. A majority of the check points were inside of the Avalon complex, so we followed our normal strategy and went to the furthest out check point that we wanted to go to then work our way back. Running down the sidewalks of major roads can get you some strange looks at times - carrying lightsabers while running will get you even more strange looks. Our first stop was Orange Theory Fitness which was about 1.2 out from Avalon. We knew where this checkpoint was since it was a stop in May. While there were 2 other checkpoints outside of Avalon we knew that we would likely not get back in time get our raffle tickets in, so we headed back to Avalon to hit the stops there. We checked in at Flywheel, Pottery Barn Kids, Road Runner Sports, Marlow's Tavern, Haven @ Avalon, and Exhale. We had some really fun tasks to do including balancing books on our head, hopscotching through the store, and burpees. Don't forget to follow your local Road Runner Sports Adventure Run page on Facebook! The day of your Adventure Run, they post a secret checkpoint that only followers will know about. Sometimes it is as hidden location and sometimes you have to answer a trivia question. In keeping with the Star Wars theme, after we arrived at the secret checkpoint we had to have a light saber duel. They provide you with paper light sabers, but we brought our own. Becky and I totally ended up in what was more like a jousting match than a lightsaber duel, but here is the result... The awesome team of Road Runner Sports had root beer float waiting for us when we arrived back to the lawn for the raffle. After a hot run, it was much appreciated for sure! We diligently got our tickets separated and organized as we waited for the drawings. We really did a great job getting tickets! Brooke at Road Runner Sports Alpharetta is an AMAZING Adventure Run host! Her energy is awesome and makes the raffle drawings a lot of fun - even when it isn't your ticket. There were some awesome prizes including gift cards to local stores and restaurants, race entries, and of course everyone's favorite....FREE SHOES! Momma K was our only winner this evening, but we still had a great time as always. If you haven't checked out the Adventure Run near you....why not!?!?! Seriously, they are FREE and fun way to get a few miles in, check out new places in the area, share laughs with friends, and of course WIN PRIZES!
