Of course, no vacation or racecation is complete without a little bit of travel drama, right? Well, we were already a little tight for time to land at Midway Airport and get to the expo to pick up our bibs before they closed. So, the first delay of the trip happened when our boarding process got delayed about about 10 minutes with a long story that I won't go into the details of. We finally got on the plane and we were ready to be wheels up to the Windy City!
We were number four in line for take off! YES! If you have ever flown out of Atlanta, you know that sometimes you can wait a long time for take off, especially on a Friday afternoon. Well, guess what. Guess what airplane had a sensor light turn on just as we were making our way to take off. Yep, ours. What was supposed to be a few minute scan turned into a 20-25 minute delay. While I am always thankful for Delta getting me to my destination safely, I can promise you that both Momma K and I were stressed to the max at this point as each minute went by.
We were wheels down at 5:45. We now had less than 75 minutes to get off the plane, get to a taxi, and fight through Friday afternoon traffic to get to the expo! Another HUGE shout out to the man in seat 12C, Tom. Tom helped both of us get our luggage down and even escorted two crazy ladies that he just met to the taxi area since he was familiar with the airport. Ok, so things were falling into place.
The forecast for Sunday is looking a bit toasty, so the Rock N Roll team was making sure that everyone was well aware of the heat situation along with ways to prepare and handle the heat on race day. In the days leading up to race weekend, runners received emails with heat advisory information along with social media posts and banners at the expo.
