It is time to kick of my 2016 Rock 'n' Roll Tour! While there have been several Rock 'n' Roll race weekends in 2016 already, I have had to sit back, and wait "patiently" while watching all of the fun go down at each location. This weekend it is my turn to rock - Raleigh, here I come! I flew into Raleigh early afternoon and headed to the expo straight from the airport. Traffic wasn't too bad and I made it to the Raleigh Convention Center in good time. Thanks to balloon signage, it was pretty easy to know exactly where the expo was in the Convention Center. When I entered the expo hall I was a little surprised at the crowd size. I had to remind myself that Raleigh is one of the smaller races in the Rock 'n' Roll race series. Also, I was there right before the post-work crowd got there. Don't get me wrong, there was still a good bit happening, it just wasn't that overwhelming crowd that can sometimes happen at race expos. The first step of the expo was going through and collecting your bib and shirt. There was an area to print your waiver in case you didn't have it with you. Next you proceeded to the bib pickup area where there were sections for the 5K, Half Marathon, and Marathon which were each broken up by corral. The process was crazy quick and I moved on to get my race shirts for the 5K and Half Marathon in the next area. Once you collected your packet(s), you next headed through the Brooks Official Merchandise area. From tanks to jackets, to magnet, and more, there was a wide variety of official race merchandise to choose from. I must say, Brooks and Rock 'n' Roll really did an amazing job with the merchandise. The different colorways and designs offered were awesome! After making a few purchases, because duh, I headed into the main expo floor. Since it was a long day so far, I made it a fairly quick trip through. I always make sure to stop at Geico and enter their contest to try to instantly win a post race massage. Momma K was a winner in Las Vegas, so people do win. Actually someone won just a few minutes after I left the booth! You never know when it will your lucky time. I checked out a few different vendors around the expo, but of course I made a prolonged stop at the Sparkly Soul booth. At the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series booth, you were able to register for the 2017 Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh race weekend at insanely low prices PLUS get a free shirt! I was so tempted to take advantage of this special, but I don't know what next Spring will bring for my travel schedule so I decided to hold out for now. Special blitz pricing is going on through 4/17/16 which you can learn more about here. Who doesn't love bling!?!? If you aren't familiar with the Rock 'n' Roll Heavy Medal program, I highly recommend that you check it out. Basically, you get rewarded with a bonus medal for each extra Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon or Marathon you complete in the calendar year. From the Double Beat medal for completing two Rock 'n' Roll stop to the Hall of Fame medal for 15+. There are also special medals for completing certain cities combined in the same year. Trust me, there is a TON of bling to earn! I know, I know, registration for all those races is pricey, right? Well, what happens to your plastic bottle when you recycle it? They just make more bottles right? Wrong. Meet Repreve. Repreve turns recycled plastic bottles into products that many of us use every day from upholstery, to clothing, to shoes and more. There booth was interactive and really informative and I loved learning about the process and how recycling my plastic bottle can turn into other products that I use in my life. The expo was a success for sure. There were some cool vendors, checked out some fun products, and even learned some things. It was a great time, but it was time to go get checked into the hotel and get ready for tomorrow's Inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh 5K! Want to join in on the Rock 'n' Roll fun in 2016?
