Disclosure: As a member of the 2017 #RockNBlog team, I was provided with a complimentary 2017 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series Global Tour Pass. This provides me with entry to their race series, however no other compensation was provided and all travel and other expenditures are paid for by me. As always, all thoughts are strictly my own. The Rock n Roll Savannah 5K was done, and now it was time to get ready for the 1 Mile. With about an hour between crossing the finish line of the 5K and the 1 Mile starting, the turn around had to be quick. I had just enough time to use the restroom, drink some water, head to gear check to get my 1 Mile bib and timing tag, and change my shirt. There was a total strategy behind all of this. With a 2:30 start time, the corral for the 1 Mile opened a few minutes before the race. The field was a lot smaller for the 1 Mile than the 5K (475 vs. 1100 runners), but the energy was just as great. The 1 Mile is held completely inside of Daffin park and is an out and back basically. If you have never ran a 1 Mile race, it is quite a crazy experience because you take off and before you even knew it we already hit the turn around to head back to the finish line! Say whaaat?!?! My runner brain was so confused when I hit the turn around. Just as with the 5K, the final stretch was ran inside of Grayson Stadium. Yes, the sand leading into the stadium and the warning track were a little tricky to maneuver (especially on baby giraffe legs), but it was totally worth it. I just barely missed my goal time by 11 seconds, but I will take my new 40-ish second PR and celebrate. What is really sweet is that we got an awesome finisher medal for the 1 Miler as well! Why exactly did I want to run the 1 Mile right after the 5K (and after yesterday's half marathon)? The answer is simple - bling and PIE! Returning for a second year to Rock n Roll Savannah weekend was the Sweet Georgia Pie Challenge. Runners who complete both the 5K and the 1 Mile received a pie for completing the challenge. Bling and pie? Count me in! Thank you Rock 'n' Roll for an awesome race weekend in Savannah! With so many race distances available, there was really something for everyone. All of the staff, volunteers, emergency personnel, bands, and fellow runners made it a ROCKIN' time for sure. I cannot wait for 2018!
