This is my family's 5th year running the Santa Hustle in the Smokies (Sevierville, TN) as a pre-Christmas family tradition.
It has been a pretty crazy few weeks for myself and my family and we were definitely looking forward to a nice relaxing family trip before the holidays to spend time together and recharge. Well, the trip didn't exactly start off uneventful. Living in Georgia we don't get much snow - an occasional light dusting or 2" of accumulation here and there. Well, first the first time in a few decades, it snowed in Georgia before Christmas. Like, SNOWED. The weather forecasts were totally off mark and what was supposed to be a light fleury with no road covering and at most a light dusting in the grass turned into 10"+ of snow being dumped on the metro-Atlanta area! The roads weren't ideal and unexpected early school closures and a few jackknifed tractor trailers created a longer drive than normal, but at least the drive was pretty!
Remember how I told you that the hotel doors were feet away from the start and finish lines? It doesn't get much closer than this! Seriously, the longest part of my "commute" to the start line was riding the elevator downstairs. Plus, I didn't have to use the port-o-potty! BONUS!
