We were guided to the starting line by police shortly before the race started as the race started on the main road. Estimated pace signs helped indicate where to line up in the crowd at the start line. I still was not back to 100% from last week, so I decided to line up a little more conservatively and take today easier.
The first 1.5 miles or so were on the roadway through some residential areas before hitting the trailhead to take on the next 4.5 miles. When you run in Atlanta, you come to expect hills, but running on the Silver Comet is a nice reprieve from the hills. There is a little hill around mile 1, but other than that, the rest of the way is super flat (especially on the trail) or a slight downhill.
It was a beautiful morning and a sunrise for a run. Actually, it was a tiny bit toasty for March in Atlanta. We seriously went from being bundled up last weekend to shorts and tanks this weekend, but I will totally take it.
