As runners started to gather, the number of great costumes escalated. It was so fun to see all the different superheroes, villains, and self-created heroes (such as my Super Awesome outfit) costumes out there. I would say over 2/3 of the runners had on some kind of themed outfit which was AWESOME!
The race advertised the race as "mostly flat with a few rolling hills in the last mile." Well, I was running really solid the first 1.8 miles or so. Right around this point, I saw my friend Jill and her three sweet daughters along the course cheering on the runners. I saw the runners in front of my take a right hand turn and I knew we were toast. I could tell by how the building sat that we were about to go uphill...a lot. Just as you passed the mile two marker and water station, it was time to take on a VERY steep hill. It was a short hill, but it was so steep that you literally leaned into the hill. The final mile was definitely quite hilly at times with a few tough hills spread throughout it before a nice and fairly flat last 1/4 mile.
The post race area had some great snacks thanks to KIND and a local Mexican restaurant along with some other tasty options. There were also a few bounce houses for the kids which they all seemed to be loving along with a "superhero in training" kids run. The morning concluded with the costume contests and awards ceremony where Jennifer and Brendan both placed - I was less than a minute away from placing...whomp whomp.
