We got checked in and had plenty of time to use the bathroom and get lined up. We were a few minutes late starting as the officers on course were still getting into position. I honestly didn't mind though because I was enjoying scoping out all the great pajamas!
After my first mile I made myself slow down slightly as I went out a little faster than my goal. Miles 2 and 3 were more on track with what I promised myself I would try to run. I was pleasantly surprised when I finished and realized that I ended up about spot on with my goal for the day.
I always preach about how nice it is to sometimes run smaller, local races rather than the large ones and this race was no different. Yes, those large races with all the fancy awards, snacks, etc are great, but sometimes the small ones in your own community are just as great. Different, but still great.
