After working with law enforcement and the Las Vegas community, it was decided that continuing with the race would help lift the community, bring together warm hearts, help people cope and heal, and be #VegasStrong. We cannot live in fear and voice of the running community and those in Las Vegas wanting to continue with the race was a reflection of that.
Yes, there will be some changes this weekend. Yes, it will be emotional at times. However, coming together as a community is what we do. We are here for you Las Vegas. A HUGE thank you to Rock n Roll Marathon Series and local and federal law enforcement agencies for coming together so quickly to come up an option to let thousands of runners show the world that we stand strong with you Las Vegas.
Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series came up with various was that our running community can help the city of Las Vegas in this time: |
After flying into Vegas on the red-eye flight, a little bit of sleeping in will be needed for sure. Our first stop of Friday morning will definitely be checking out the expo before making our way around Vegas the rest of the day! Y'all know I love some expo shopping so it is likely I could do more damage here than at the blackjack tables! The Rock n Roll Las Vegas expo is one of their largest race expos of the year, so be sure to take some time and explore before heading out to conquer the day.
With the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas 5K in the evening, we will have most of the day to enjoy in Vegas before getting ready for our first race of the weekend. A nice breakfast/brunch buffet will probably be in order before doing some exploring around Vegas. We will have to remember that we do have a race to run this evening, so we don't want to be on our feet too much during the day, so I am thinking that a little relaxation while enjoying some college football at the casino might be needed.
With 13.1 miles on tap for Momma K and myself, it is critical that we don't over do it on Sunday. I am not going to lie - night races can be tricky. You get so used to a morning race routine that you can struggle to time when to eat your pre-race meal before your evening start time. We will definitely take it easy most of the day before eating a good lunch with a short nap in the afternoon.
Once we all finish and meet back up, we will be finding our way around The Strip for some treats to celebrate our new bling!
Monday morning will likely start with some major food intake - you gotta refuel, duh! After that, we are hitting up the spa for hour long massages. We both definitely earned these massages and have been looking forward to this massage for weeks now! Of course some shopping and gambling will probably be on tap as well but after earning some sweet bling, what better way to celebrate than with friends!
