I hope everyone had a awesome weekend and great Father's Day. I definitely kept Papa J active this weekend. To start it off the weekend we ran the Braves Country 5K on Saturday (recap coming later this week). It was very warm and humid to say the least, but he ran a great race and I am super proud of him. With our race entry came a ticket to that evening's Braves game so we went there along with Becky to celebrate her birthday. On Sunday we went out to breakfast before heading towards Stone Mountain for the day. It has become a tradition now for us to spend holidays at Stone Mountain and getting some miles in as a family. Whether you want to bike, go on hiking trails, run on pavement, or climb the mountain, there is something for everyone get miles in at Stone Mountain Park. The past few times that we had gone to Stone Mountain Park, we hiked up to the summit. Today we decided to utilize the running/walking/biking trail that goes around the base of the mountain. We had never done this before so we were excited to do something different. The road around most of the base is a one-way road and the other lane is designated for pedestrians and cyclists. The loop around is 5 miles and has its fair share of rolling hills along the way. Nothing too crazy, but enough to really get your blood pumping and legs going. Goodness it was HOT though! We got to Stone Mountain around 11ish and by that time it was already pushing 90 degrees with a heat index in the upper 90s. We carried our water with us and took it nice and easy. While we didn't push ourselves and just enjoyed our time together, sometimes it is needed to be safe about things. After finishing our 5 sweaty miles, we enjoyed a nice picnic lunch at a pavilion. It wasn't anything fancy, just sandwiches, sides, and of course ice-cold drinks. While it was hot and humid, all three of us really enjoyed the day. Just because it is a holiday/celebration doesn't mean that you have to deviate off of being fit and active. There are a lot of really great ways to get your family involved and be active together. Let's be real, staying on track with your fitness goals is a lot easier when the ones around you are doing it to. It wasn't the fanciest of Father's Day outings, but it is what we wanted to do as a family. The family that is fit together stays together!
