Speaking of which, how is your training going for Pittsburgh Marathon weekend? If you caught my blog post about motivation, I shared a few different ways to stay motivated with your training (especially during winter). From training groups, to using technology, tracking your progress, and even treating yourself, there are countless ways to keep yourself going - even during those tough winter months.
One of my favorite ways to stay on track and motivated to log those miles is to treat yourself to new gear. Let's be honest, shopping for new gear can be overwhelming. Sometimes you don't know where to start or might not find those things that you didn't even know that you just had to have.
The team at P3R made gearing up a little easier in 2019. The new Ready. Set. MOVE. subscription box made its debut this month and is a great way to prepare for the Pittsburgh Marathon weekend (or any other races you are preparing for). Ready. Set. MOVE. is a quarterly subscription box that is full of running and fitness goodies to get you ready for race day.
My first Ready. Set. MOVE. box arrived on my doorstep recently and I couldn't wait to dig in...
I always look at the 4RUN2 apparel at the P3R booth at the Pittsburgh Marathon expo every year. Due to limited space in my luggage, I have never pulled the trigger on it and honestly I always forget to buy one online. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked to find a super soft 4RUN2 long-sleeve shirt in this quarter's box. While I cannot wait to wear my new shirt, I have to say that I am hoping to just wear it while training in the next few weeks and that I can leave the long sleeves at home on race weekend. |
Another awesome piece of 4RUN2 gear! While it is technically called a "head wrap" it is so much more than that! This tube can be used in countless ways on your run including a scarf, headband, cap, mask, wristband and more. I love using these as a scarf then pulling it over my face as a mask if it gets crazy cold and/or windy while on my run. We will just hope that I can use this as a wristband on May 5th though - rather than using it as a scarf or mask. |
Real talk - winter has been quite ridiculous this year. Between winter storms and polar vortexes, it has been frigid and wet. Even down here in Georgia we have had a cold and wet winter (by our standards, it has been quite cold here). Since I am not a runner that loves the treadmill (kuddos to you that do love it), I tend to get my miles in outside as long as it isn't dangerous conditions. The Brooks beanie in the Ready. Set. MOVE. box is just what I need to wrap up winter training (hopefully spring is near). It is nice and cozy with a great fleece lining. With the Brooks logo on one side and "outrun yourself" on the other, this is just what I need to remind myself as I increase my mileage. |
I am ALWAYS running in sunglasses. Even when it is dark, cloudy, or raining, I am in my sunglasses. They help my eyes from getting dry or keep irritants out of my eyes on the run (and life in general). Over the past year or so, I have been living in goodr sunglasses. They are so light, comfortable and functional. The best part? They are super affordable! Included in the Ready. Set. MOVE. box was a color that I had never seen before, so I was pretty pumped to add those to my collection. Now THIS is a piece of gear that I hope we all need come May 4-5! BONUS: All marathon runners receive a pair of exclusive Pittsburgh Marathon goodrs! Don't worry, 5K, half marathon, and relay runners can secure their pair at a discounted race. Head over to the Pittsburgh Marathon site here for more information on how to get your pair of Pittsburgh Marathon goodrs. |
If you have been in a local running store over the past few years, you have probably seen nuun on the shelves. You also might have even seen it as course hydration on your race course. What exactly is nuun? Nuun are tabs that you add to your water made with plant based ingredients and are gluten-free, vegan, and soy/dairy free. I don't know about you, but I am not passing up any chance to get some extra electrolytes and vitamins in me. I have used nuun previously and it is a nice crisp taste and not overly strong or artificial. |
I love snacks. Like, LOVE snacks. When I can find snacks that have nutritional value, even better! I have never tried NuGo products, but several of my friends have and I have heard great things about them. I absolutely LOVE peanut butter and chocolate so I wildly excited to see a NuGo peanut butter chocolate protein cookie in Ready. Set. MOVE. There was also a mint chocolate chip protein bar which sounds absolute delish as well. I am pretty sure that both of these will be devoured soon! |
Now is the time that the mileage begins to amp up so I might as well fuel well and look good out there logging those miles - am I right?
Now, who is joining me and becoming a Runner of Steel? GAME ON!
