We will just say that this blog post was almost called "The Race That Wasn't." We are very familiar with where our race was this morning and planned to leave about 1 1/2 hours before the race since our drive was about 45 minutes to the race. Well, we ended up leaving about 5 minutes later than we had planned. As we were about to get on the interstate, we noticed cars stopping on the on-ramp and cars at a dead stop! NO BUENO! I looked on my phone and noticed that traffic was at a standstill for at least 2 miles. We quickly rerouted and took back roads and got on the interstate a few miles down the road. We later found out that the issue was sadly a fatal wreck that killed one person and left several injured.
I was pretty pleased with my finish time. I was about 30 seconds faster than last week and it was a more challenging course in my opinion. After I finished, I got water at the finish line and headed back to where you entered the track to cheer on Momma K for the last 100 yards or so. When I saw her, I knew that the woman just behind her was likely in her age group. I pushed her to keep going strong because she had a runner on her heels. She finished strong and beat the woman behind her by a second.
