All week the weather forecast showed severe weather moving in on Saturday. The storms predicted included heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes. I decided that I would go to the race and run as long as the race was still on (obviously if the weather was dangerous they wouldn't run it). When I woke up on Saturday morning, it was just pouring rain with one or two random rumbles of thunder in the distance. On the way to the race the rain got heavier. I have ran in the rain plenty of times, so I was prepared for the worst. To say that it was raining when we arrived to the race is a total understatement.
Participation and course support were both down this year compared to last year, but it is safe to assume that the weather played a major role in this. While a lot of people probably decided to skip out on the race due to the rain, we actually ended up with decent weather. Within the first 1/2 mile the rain let up a lot and by half way through the rain was a sprinkle - MUCH better than the weather projections showed.
Lesson to all: life is what you make out of it. If you decided to embrace the rainy conditions and make the best out of it, then you will have a great time. The rain couldn't keep us from having fun, so here are a few fun shots from the day.
