Over my past two Princess Half Marathon weekends, I have been a lot of the classic Disney princesses. Since Papa J is being such a fantastic sport about costuming for the weekend, we found that it be only appropriate to incorporate his favorite Disney princess into our costumes this weekend. Any guesses? That is right folks, we are going "Under The Sea" for the Princess 10K! I will be representing Ariel and will have my side-kicks Flounder (Momma K) and Sebastian (Papa J). The most difficult part of these costumes was by far my flipper. The flipper was created with a scale-like spandex material which we cut out fabric to create a front and back flipper. We used interface at the bottom of the flipper in order to help it hold its form while I run. The two flippers were then attached to wide elastic to wear it around my waist. The top was created with a nude colored tank and plastic seashells which I painted purple with spray paint. Of course, I had to top it off with a dinglehopper (a silver plastic fork attached to a ponytail holder). The next most time consuming costume was Momma K's Flounder. Her tank started with a yellow technical tank and I had cut blue vinyl to create the stripes. The hardest part was creating the hat. The hat started as a white hat which I painted to match the tank. I then painted blue stripes on the hat and used felt to cut out the pieces for the eyes and fins. Once again, we knew it is was important to keep it simple and let him be as comfortable as possible yet still look the part. His costume is a basic red technical shirt. The hat is a plain red visor which I used craft foam to create the eyes. We are ready to take the plunge and go "under the sea" tomorrow for the Princess 10K! I hope to see some of you on course or during pre-race or post-race! Question of the Day: Are you running the Princess 10K? What is your costume or race outfit inspiration?
