It is the 4th Thursday of the month which means it is Adv.............oh wait, I don't usually have Adventure Run on the 4th Thursday of the month. Due to the 4th of July holiday coming up next week (and Peachtree Road Race expo), Road Runner Sports Marietta held Adventure Run on a special 4th Thursday this week! What is an Adventure Run you ask? Adventure Runs are hosted by Road Runner Sports stores and are a scavenger hunt style fun run. At the start of the run, a map is revealed on a board (or sent to your email if you pre-registered) and you are sent on your way. Your goal is to get to as many checkpoints and get back to the store in an hour. Each checkpoint gives you raffle tickets to be used in the drawings once the run is over. At some checkpoints you simply get tickets for arriving and some have fun little tasks to complete (such as burpees, planks, etc). There are some pretty awesome prizes to be won and the best part is that Adventure Runs are FREE! Each Adventure Run night has a different them - luau, 80s, and Star Wars are just a few of the themes that I have participated in. With July 4th being next week, it is only appropriate for tonight to be patriotic (red, white, and blue). If you dress in the them of the night you receive bonus tickets at check-in. You know that I love showing my patriotism! It was Becky's birthday over the weekend, so we are using this evening as a great opportunity to celebrate her birthday as well. Road Runner Sports Marietta wanted to do something extra special for the evening as well - if you bring letters for our soldiers you received additional tickets! I think it was awesome of them to do this. A lot of people want to send mail to soldiers serving our country, but they don't know how to get them to the soldiers, so this is great! Road Runner Sports also had a poster to sign as well to show your gratitude. If you run an Adventure Run, you will want to arrive a little early to check out the awesome vendors that they have there. Not only is this a great way to learn about products, services and races, but you can score tickets before you even run! Remember, the more tickets you have the better your chances of winning some awesome prizes from these vendors. Our map was revealed and we were on our way. The heat index was in the upper 90s so we decided to play it safe and just run a slower pace and stick to some of the checkpoints a little closer this week. We were on our way! A number of our first stops were all very close together which was a great little warm-up. We went to Mirko Pasta, Ali's Cookie, Aurelio's Pizza, Chick-fil-a, and Starbucks to start off. We then headed out about a mile to a yoga studio and massage place to gather a few more tickets. A huge shout out to the team at Massage Heights for offering the runners water on this hot day. At this point we turned back and headed back towards Road Runner Sports. We had extra time, so we went over to Orange Theory about 1/2 mile away. Once there we were offered bonus tickets for completing push-up jacks. We got back to Road Runner Sports with time to spare. While you have an hour to get back, you always want to get back early to separate your tickets and organize them. I won a gift card to a local pizza place which will be nice to use one evening after an Adventure Run with my buds. Our big winner of the night was my friend Jennifer's 7-year old son who won a 90 minute massage. I made sure to tell him to selling it to mom or at least trade her for something. :) While it was a hot and humid night, we all had a great time. Thank you again to Road Runner Sports and the vendors for making Adventure Runs possible.
