I ran the Wonderful Days of Winter 5K in Marietta, GA a few times previously, but have had to miss it the past few years due to travel and other commitments. The race was originally conducted as a fundraiser for the Wonderful Days Pre-K to purchase buses to transport students. The race has continued to be a success over the past years that it continues to be a main fundraiser for the Pre-K and is now in its 13th year.
To be honest, all this crazy winter weather has taken a toll on me. I know this is "normal" winter for you up north and even mild weather for some of you in the extreme north (hello Canada friends), but for this Georgia girl, I am cold and I am over it. I am mentally and physically done, and I was just happy to get to run in shorts again today.
I had a very good first mile - which was expected because it is the most forgiving the course. My other two miles were decent with only a slightly slow down on this hills. I crossed the finish line about 2 minutes faster than when I ran this race three years ago so I will take it.
