Today wasn't just any other race day for me though, it was a triple race day! Atlanta's Finest 5K was up first, followed by Rugged Maniac in the afternoon and concluding with Alien 5K in the evening. Everything was carefully planned and I was on a pretty strict time schedule all day with little room for error (i.e. traffic or other delays).
After getting our bibs, we used the restrooms (both indoor facilities and port-o-potties were available) and hung out with a few of our friends while we waited to head over to the start. Atlanta Track Club and the Atlanta Police Department had a special surprise for us today while we waited to start: the Mobile Command Center was on site!
Since I ran this race the past three years, I knew what to expect on the race course. I really took advantage of the first half of the course and ran a pretty strong first half. As I took on the hill on Luckie Street, I reminded myself that I needed to save my legs and energy with an obstacle course race and another 5K all within the next 11 hours, I knew that I needed to be smart. I ended up finishing with my second fastest time on this course! That wasn't the plan, so lets just hope my legs are ok with that later today.
