It will be a totally different experience for sure. In celebration of this "whole new kind of Disney" adventure for me, I wanted to highlight a few of the things that I am most looking forward to about my first non-race weekend Disney trip.
Piggy-backing off of no 2am wake-ups is that I can actually stay in the parks later! When you have to wake up at a that hour, it isn't practical to stay in the parks to shut them down (people do it - I do not). I am always checking my watch and planning on what time I need to leave to be in bed by a certain time to get a few hours of sleep for the next morning's race. Well, not this trip! I can stay in the parks as late as I want, enjoy the fireworks, and not worry about any particular "bedtime". Who knows, maybe I will FINALLY get to experience new Magic Kingdom fireworks spectacular, Happily Ever After! |
When you have races looming over your head, you tend to be aware of what you are eating. Whether you are carb-loading for the half marathon or avoiding certain foods such as greasy foods or dairy, that can damper your "Disney diet". Thankfully we usually stay a few days post race weekend, so I can enjoy things that I don't get to enjoy prior to the races, but this week I can eat without thinking "oh....should I eat that before tomorrow's race" or "I need to make sure I have dining reservations for my favorite pre-race pasta meal". All bets are off and if I want icecream for lunch, that is exactly what I will be having. |
When I was last at Walt Disney World, I was there for the first day of EPCOT's Flower & Garden Festival. Since it was the first day of the festival and an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day, it was insanely crowded at the festival. There are a number of booths that I want to go check out this time - I mean, y'all know I love some good snacks. Plus, I get to score my Minnie Passholder magnet that matches my Mickey from March. There is so much to check out at the Flower and Garden Festival and I absolutely cannot wait to go explore some more! |
The best part of a "me-cation" no planning around anyone else! I know it sounds horrible, but sometimes it is just nice to go where you want, when you want. Lucky for me, my family (particularly Momma K) has the same taste in Disney attractions, but I can seriously ride the same things over and over all day long. I also have absolutely no issue at all grabbing a drink and a Mickey pretzel, finding a seat nestled away from the crowds, and just listening to the sounds of Disney and watch the world go by. There are so many great alcoves hidden around Disney and I have full intention to take advantage of many of them and just relax and enjoy Disney my way. |
