The forecast for race day was look grim yet again. Not as bad as last year, but a heavy chance for rain was showing. After last year, I packed up my rain gear (ponchos and visors), but we were hopeful for a drier morning than forecasted.
Each corral went off about 3 minutes after the last one, so our wait wasn't too long. The volunteers did a great job monitoring the corrals to make sure you were in your specific wave/corral as the first corrals were "preferred corrals" that required specific paces (and proof of time).
A few minutes before the race it started raining. Great. It wasn't a hard rain, but enough to bring back those horrible nightmares from last year. I put on my poncho and just a few minutes later the rain stopped. I checked my phone and the radar showed no more rain for the next hour or two, so the poncho got tossed. Hopefully that was a good decision...
Our course the Hot Chocolate 15K would have goodies on course for you. At certain water stations, sweet treats like marshmallows or chocolate morsels were ready for you. Just a word of advice, if you aren't used to something, don't try it on race day.
A huge thank you to the volunteers for offering bags so we could take our chocolate bowls back to the car with us.
The 15K finisher medal was also awesome as always. This year it reminded me of the Golden Ticket Wonka Bars. The Hot Chocolate 15K medals definitely stand out in my medal collection.
