At first I thought these were going to be one of those "magic pills" that promise to make you lose 10 pounds in a week while eating everything that you want. After reading about MealEnders I was pleasantly surprised to find out what they really are. MealEnders are:
- Gluten Free
- Contain No Drugs
- Low Fat
- Contain No Herbs
- Kosher
- Contain No High Fructose Syrup
I personally have a "grazing" habit particularly when I get home from the gym in the evening. Even though I ate what my body needs, there is that temptation to snack beyond dinner. Yes, I am guilty of aimlessly wandering into the kitchen for a snack shortly after eating a meal. Even though I am full, there is just something that makes me go into the kitchen to see what I can find. While it might seem semi-harmless, this creates a lot of unnecessary calorie intake.
MealEnders come in 4 flavors - chocolate mint, cinnamon, citrus, and mocha. The flavors are very light in the way that they are not "bam!" in your face, they give you the sweetness that you crave but aren't too overpowering. My favorites are definitely chocolate mint followed by citrus.
MealEnders have a dual layer - the first layer is the "reward layer" which treats you with a sweetness like a dessert. The inner layer creates a tingling sensation which distracts your mind from overeating. The MealEnders lozenges keep your mind occupied for 20 minutes in order to let your brain register that you are full.
Once you have eaten the appropriate amount of food, simply pop a MealEnders into your mouth an it instantly goes into action. While you might be tempted to chew the lozenge, you need to let it dissolve on your tongue. The outer layer is very soft and melts off pretty quickly which makes you feel like you are having a dessert. The inner layer takes a little longer to dissolve. While it creates a tingling sensation, it is a very light feeling (almost like a peppermint).
At first I asked myself what makes using a MealEnders different than chewing a piece of gum or eating a mint. I took to the MealEnders website to find the scientific explanation. "Candies and mints are generally not intended to encourage less consumption. In fact, most candy and mint recipes are intended to entice people to eat more. ...active-taste layers create a sensory experience that clears the palate and helps stop the process of eating to allow adequate time for natural satiety systems to work."
My first few times with MealEnders I used them after my post-gym dinners (when I tend to overeat the most). I portioned out my dinner as I usually do and once I at the appropriate amount, I reached for a MealEnders. I let the MealEnders dissolve as I cleaned up my dinner and by the time I was done cleaning I was not tempted to find other things to munch on during the evening.
MealEnders are super convenient to take on the go with you - they come individually wrapped so they are perfect to have a few in your purse, car, or desk for when you need them. They are also great to have on the counter in the kitchen for when you start your trip to go "graze." MealEnders are a good product for those that have already found their way to a balanced diet but still struggle with the moderation and cravings at times. While those that are still trying to find a healthy lifestyle can still benefit from MealEnders, I personally feel that the benefits would be best for those already in control of their diet to a degree.
I would consider the 25 piece bags periodically and utilize them for situations when I feel like I am losing control of only eating a good portion. I will likely continue to keep a few in my purse, at my desk, and of course at home.
