As the saying goes, 'all good things must come to an end.' While it is the end of 'Adventure Run Season' for me, it will return before I know it in the spring! What is an Adventure Run you ask? Adventure Runs are hosted by Road Runner Sports stores and are a scavenger hunt style fun run. At the start of the run, a map is revealed on a board (or sent to your email if you pre-registered) and you are sent on your way. Your goal is to get to as many checkpoints and get back to the store in an hour. Each checkpoint gives you raffle tickets to be used in the drawings once the run is over. At some checkpoints you simply get tickets for arriving and some have fun little tasks to complete (such as burpees, planks, etc). There are some pretty awesome prizes to be won and the best part is that Adventure Runs are FREE! Each Adventure Run night has a different theme. The theme can be anything from luau, patriotic, movies, and more. Get your reflective vests and lights ready because this week was runner safety week! With the days getting shorter as we approach winter, this is the perfect time to remind runners about the importance of making themselves visible to others. After checking in at Road Runner Sports, we headed over to the lawn to check out the Vendor Village. Our first stop was switching out our shoes for some fresh kicks for the night. Thanks to the awesome team at Mizuno, we got to run in the new Wave Inspire 12s (Wave Rider 19s were available as well). Next we checked out the rest of the booths that included a local physical therapy office with some great recovery tools to try out, a chiropractor and a massage therapist. We also had some fun booths like sharing our Halloween costume plans. Man, there were some good ideas on the board for sure! If you have followed my "tips to Adventure Runs" or my past Adventure Run experiences, you have probably heard me talk about running with the tour guide. Running with the tour guide is great because they have the check-point map and you get to leave a few minutes ahead of time with them. That's right - you don't have to wait for the map to drop (or be emailed to you if you pre-registered). Our fist stop along the way was at Body By Design. You obviously cannot have a check-point at a gym and not have to do some form of exercise. Time to burpee.....yes, in a tutu. You thought burpees were tough as is, do it in a fluffy tutu with lights. After Body By Design, we stopped at our secret check-point. Remember, be sure to follow your local Adventure Run page on Facebook to learn where your secret check point is. Your local store will announce it the afternoon of your run. Even though I might find the secret check-point while running, sometimes you have to know the answer to a specific trivia question so make sure you are in the know before you run :) After the secret check-point we headed back to Avalon to hit up the 4 check-points in there. There were a few other check-points outside of Avalon but we would not make it back to the lawn in time for the raffle, so we had to make the decision to skip these. As we arrived back into Avalon, we made a quick stop into Road Runner Sports for a check-point. While our task here was to toss a hula-hoop around a sign, I just had to show off my hula-hooping skills - even while wearing a tutu! Our final stops of the evening were at Haven @ Avalon where we had to complete jumping jacks for tickets followed by a quick stop over at Exhale! We got back to the lawn in plenty of time and enjoyed some water and got our tickets separated and sorted for the raffle! There were a lot of awesome prizes! The prizes this evening included certificates to local restaurants, massages, running gear, and oh yeah.....MIZUNO SHOES! If there is one way to get the crowd pumped up even more it is when shoes are given away! Becky was our big winner this evening winning a certificates for a few different free items at a local restaurant including a sandwich and soup. Did you know that Road Run Sports Alpharetta will be hosting a very special November edition (holiday themed) Adventure Run on November 12th. Sadly, I will not be able to attend this one, but you should definitely go check it out! I am beyond happy that I discovered Adventure Run this year. It has been an awesome way to get some miles in, win some awesome prizes, and meet some great friends! Have no fear, Adventure Run will return in the spring, and I hope to make even more great memories in 2016 with my Road Runner Sports family!
