VIP opened at 6:00 so I left the hotel about 5:45. Momma K and I arrived to the VIP tent shortly after they opened and we got settled in, ate our breakfast, and got ready for 13.1 miles of fun! Just as we approached the rain started coming in again. It wasn't a heavy rain - just a light drizzle. Thankfully, there were tents in the VIP area so we were able to stay dry a bit before heading to the start.
Whoooomp whomp. The rain started coming in heavier and the cold wind was picking up. Before we knew it, it was 7:00am and we weren't starting. Where I was standing in the corral, I couldn't hear any announcements being made (only the music was clear), but someone in the corral mentioned that there was a storm cell near us that they were watching. This makes sense because rather than sending off thousands of runners spread across several miles with the possibility of a storm cell, they kept everyone together in case different measures needed to be taken.
I don't know about you, but when I finish a half marathon, I am ready to get some food in my belly. Since my flight was in a few hours, I was excited to have a chance to get a good meal in me before flying back home.
After getting some food and my VIP massage, I made my way to collect my Remix Challenge Medal for completing the 5K on Saturday along with either the 10K or 1/2 marathon on Sunday. I also earned the Rock Trio medal today for completing my 3rd Rock 'n' Roll half marathon (or longer) race of 2017. I will receive that medal in the mail in a few weeks but it is well worth the wait. If you aren't familiar with the Rock 'n' Roll Heavy Medals program, be sure to check it out. It is an awesome (and free) program that earns you extra bling for completing multiple Rock 'n' Roll races in the same calendar year.
The post race headline concert was Fastball which I got to enjoy listening too while I was at VIP tent eating, but I had to leave to check out of my hotel before the concert was over. The Rock 'n' Roll race concerts do not disappoint and offer a wide variety of performers at each tour stop. The best part is that the concerts are free! The crowd for the concert was EXTREMELY light today due to the weather conditions today which left runners quite chilled afterwards as well as a muddy field for the concert.
